Painting by Aivazovsky hits record while under hammer

A painting by Russian artist Ivan Aivazovsky "View of Constantinople and the Bosphorus," has been sold for $ 5.2 million at "Sotheby's" auction, The Voice of Russia report says.

The canvas, completed in 1856, captures the vibrant life of the picturesque port with Nusrat Tophane mosque, which served as a guiding landmark for vessels entering the Bosporus.

In 2007 another painting by Aivazovsky hit record. “Constantinople in dawn” painting was sold for 2,7 million pounds.
