Exited children. Parents holding their hands. You can see them on the first day of each school year in yards of all Armenian schools where pupils go into the first grade.

This year over 40 thousand kids are attending school for the first time. On entering the school building, they see an entirely new world.

“It is a new, unusual world for them. But I am convinced that it will soon become their beloved world. The school years are the best period in everyone’s life. After leaving the school, they start a new life that cannot be compared to this matchless world,” Mrs. Khachatryan told Panorama.am. Since ‘time immemorial’, she has done her favorite job: she receives first graders, opens the doors of a new world for them, and when closing the doors, she is deeply moved each time, shedding tears, unable to say goodbye to them.

The teacher has a piece of advice for parents of first graders. “I know they encounter difficulties now. I realize their kids have grown up, but they are reluctant to accept this fact. It is hard to part with your children as they approach the school door and are about to walk through it: as soon as they notice their parents’ agitation, they become worried themselves. Just let them enter the school instead of telling them over and over what they should do in the classroom – over time they will learn what to do and adapt to the new world”.

Gayane ‘s second child goes into first grade today. “My son keeps asking questions about how much time he should spend in school and when he is allowed to leave his classroom. I cannot imagine how he will behave in school. He is an active boy and likes asking questions constantly. I hope he will quickly get accustomed to the new life,” Gayane says.
Suren attends schools for the first time today. The boy says he wants to be a pupil so as ‘to learn a lot of things and make many friends”.

“Mummy told me to play less so I could do my homework. Well, I am going to play after my lessons. I want to be the best pupil of our class,” Suren says.
