During a briefing today, the governor of Armenia’s Syunuik province Suren Khachatryan commented on rumors about his possible resignation.

“I don’t think I will resign. Guys, I won’t make you happy,” he told reporters.

Rumors about the possible resignation of Syunik regional governor started to swirl after his son, Tigran Khacahtryan, was detained on July 25 as part of an investigation into the incident that occurred in May 2015 in the area called Sdkhi Gyol.

The press service of Armenia’s Investigative Committee reported earlier about all necessary measures being taken for an impartial and comprehensive investigation of violence committed against brothers Harutyun and Mushegh Zakaryans in Sdkhi Gyol. A charge was brought against the governor’s son Tigran Khachatryan on July 27.

According to the press service of Investigative Committee, Tigran Khachatryan is charged with a crime referred to in Article 112 part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (intentional infliction of injuries on another person or infliction of grave damage to health) for causing severe injuries to Harutyun Zakaryan.

On the same day the investigator filed a petition asking the court to choose arrest as a measure of restraint against Tigran Khachatryan. The court granted the petition: the governor’s son was arrested for two months. An investigation is underway.
