“The cat plays, the mouse dies”: Hunting season declared

August 18 marks the beginning of hunting season in Armenia, and which will continue for six months. And, whoever wishes to go hunting needs the proper licensing.

Five thousand drams are required to purchase a license, with additional fees for each animal hunted and killed. According to the hunter’s union president, G. Grigoryan, the most expensive animal is the wild pig, which demands 50 thousand drams. Along with the wild pig, the jackrabbit, wolf, and 60 other wild animals are worth the said amount.

According to Grigoryan, before the season opening much work has been done, especially a counting of the number of animals, including the feeding of many of these animals, which cost around one million drams.

“The opening of hunting season is like a holiday, and not only for Armenian hunters,” concluded Grigoryan.

We note that there are some 25 thousand hunters in Armenia, but that for the animal world the holiday has long ago ended.
