A group of Turkish military arrested on charge of coup

On February 22 the group of high-ranking military was arrested in Turkey on the charge of the coup, foreign media reports.

The list of arrested people includes Ibrahim Fyrtyna (the former Air Force Commander and retired general), Ozgen Omek (the former Navy Commander and admiral retired), Ergin Saygun (the former deputy Chief of General Staff, the retired Army General) and ten other colonels. It’s reported that 49 current and retired militaries are arrested, including 17 retired generals, 4 admirals, 27 officers and 1 non-commissioned officer.

The investigation of the case on preparation of revolution in 2003 was initiated after the publication of scandalous articles in the Tafar newspaper in January, 2010. It was reported that the army prepared The Sledge Hummer Plan, aiming to force the tensions in the country, organize the explosions in two mosques of Istanbul and introduce the state of emergency. Besides, the newspaper said the military were planning to undermine the relations between Turkey and Greece through shooting down an aircraft in the sky of Aegean Sea.

The arrested refused to answer to questions based their rights to keep silence.
