PAP: Current Constitution gives no solutions to some important problems, hinders systemic changes
Members of the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) met today with residents of Yerevan’s Shengavit administrative district during their campaign ahead of the constitutional referendum in Armenia, the party’s press office said.
After discussing the draft amendments to the Constitution, PAP senior members made a comparative analysis of the Constitution currently in force with the draft constitutional amendments.
They said the current Constitution does not provide efficient solution to a number of important problems and hinders the implementation of systemic changes. Nor does it give the opposition any real and efficient mechanisms of control over the authorities.
Members of PAP then answered numerous questions of Shengavit residents, in particular questions about the antimonopoly policy, solution of the country’s security issues, protection of rights, etc.
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on August 21 sent the draft constitutional amendments to the country’s parliament. The draft was developed by the Special Commission on Constitutional Reforms adjunct to Armenian President. The campaign for the constitutional reform in Armenia began on October 10 and will end at midnight of December 4. The referendum will be held on December 6.
