Ruben Sarfrastyan: We should remember words of Pope Francis about Genocide and not hurry
There is no need to hastily react to reports about the return of the Turkish ambassador to the Vatican, said Ruben Safrastyan, Director of Oriental Studies Institute of Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences.
Anadolu news agency reported today that ten months after the crisis triggered by the statements of Pope Francis about the 1915 Armenian Genocide, Turkish Ambassador to Vatican Mehmet Pacaci has returned from Ankara to Vatican.
“It is necessary to wait and see what developments will follow. I think that an extremely cautious approach to the problem is necessary since we should remember the significant step taken by the Pope last year. We need to wait and form a clear idea. What the Pope did last year is undeniable. Everything will be clear soon. The Vatican will decide what to do,” the expert said at a press conference today.
To remind, Armenian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Tigran Balayan wrote on Twitter yesterday that the information of the Turkish side that the Vatican renounced the Pope’s message is not true.
