Artsakh recognition process launched, Davit Babayan says
Artsakh recognition process is launched. That does not imply a final recognition, however the process has began, press secretary to the President of Artsakh Davit Babayan told Panoram.am highlighting the importance of the process as the one aimed at preserving peace and stability in the region.
Davit Babayan’s comments came after the Armenian government endorsed the draft law on the recognition of Artsakh Republic independence.
To Babayan, with the above-mentioned move Armenia sends out a message to the international community as well as Azerbaijan that in case of resuming the war, no alternative will be left except Artsakh Republic recognition.
“Armenia has demonstrated a constructive approach throughout the conflict settlement process and has not recognized the independence of Artsakh for 25 years of negotiations. Otherwise, the whole process would collapse ending in a new war,” Babayan said adding that Azerbaijan is the side that unleashes military operations, thus making Artsakh recognition an imperative.
“Azerbaijan knows well that the move [independence recognition] restricts their chances for maneuvering in unconstructive and provocative activities. Azerbaijan has significantly damaged the settlement process through unleashing the four-day war, while Armenia instead expresses its constructive approach in an effort to revive the deadlocked settlement process.”
