Upper Lars will always be dangerous for us, MTC Gagik Beglaryan says
Starting today, cars will pass through Upper Lars road during the daytime, Minister of Transport and Communication, Gagik Beglaryan said adding that in 4-5 days the road will be open 24 hours.
According to him, the Georgian government is worried as long as the ultimate danger isn’t eliminated. “At this point it is likely that about 5 million tons will flow from the mountains. They are considering building a tunnel over the road, which requires a lot of money. Yet this road will always be dangerous for us. That is why I also ask our businessmen to also consider the option of using ferries. Any minute Lars [road] might be closed”.
Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan noted that it’s time to consider an alternative road.
