The screening program aimed at early detection and prevention of noncommunicable diseases is underway in Armenia. Deputy Minister of Health of the RA Sergey Khachatryan noted about this during today’s meeting with the reporters. He reminded that all the RA citizens aged 35-68 have an opportunity to undergo free medical examination of arterial tension and diabetes, as well as all the women in 30-60 age group undergo a test for the early detection and prevention of cervical cancer.

In his words as of 1 December 2016 over 860.000 medical exams have been conducted in Armenia. 430.000 examinations have been carried out to reveal hypertension and 303.000 tests intended to measure blood glucose level. Meanwhile 26.000 blood and urine tests were carried out for women with 36-38 weeks of pregnancy.

Notably over 101.00 women have undergone the Papanicolaou test (abbreviated as Pap test) and among them 6500 women (6.5 percent) were diagnosed with some deviations in cytological status. Sergey Khachatryan underscored the importance of the screening program and reminded that the early detection of a disease allows to cure it more effectively. “We call on everyone to participate in this screening program more actively as it aims at detecting the hidden diseases in the early stage,” S. Khachatryan said.

The Deputy Minister informed that within the framework of the program aimed at modernising the regional hospital systems Meghri Regional Medical Center opened at the beginning of this year. In the current year five newly constructed outpatient clinics were opened in the rural communities.

R. Yeolyan Hematology Medical Center has been modernized and provided with the latest medical equipment. “The new equipment will help to increase the efficiency of the treatment of malignant blood diseases. For the first time bone marrow transplants will be carried out in the centre, as well as other medical operations in line with international standards,” Sergey Khachatryan said.
