Iranian first VP Es’hagh Jahangiri said Iranian and Georgian nations held numerous commonalities and they share similar views over regional and international issues.
According to Mehr Agency, Jahangiri made the remarks at a joint press conference on Saturday morning with Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili who is heading a delegation to Tehran.

“Iran and Georgia are situated in the same civilization and cultural zone,” stressed the Iranian official adding “proper grounds have emerged for development of economic, political and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

The Iranian official next stressed, that fruitful talks were held with Mr. Kvirikashvili over expansion of ties in economic, political, scientific and cultural fields though certain measures had been previously taken in the economic sector which needed to be reviewed and promoted.

“The main axis of talks will be the North-South Corridor and connection of the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea through Iran, Armenia and Georgia or otherwise through Iran, Azerbaijan and Georgia,” he underlined.

The official noted that another major issue revolved around formation of an energy corridor to transfer electricity between Russia, Georgia, Armenia and Iran in warm and cold seasons.

“The two sides also emphasized the need to activate banking relations in order to facilitate bilateral trade between Tehran and Tbilisi,” noted Jahangiri.

The Iranian official also stated that Iranian side remains ready to export natural gas to Georgia through the territory of Armenia, recalling a short-term agreement on natural gas exports to Georgia.
