No academic literature created on Lachin liberation yet – Historian
I tend to view the Khojalu, Shushi and Lachin, now Berdzor, operations in one integrity, as the one is the continuity of the other, Doctor of Sciences (History) Ashot Nersisyan told reporters at a press conference on Thursday.
Nersisyan, nonetheless, expressed regret that no academic literature has been created on Lachin liberation thus far.
“It is well-known that Lachin was liberated by volunteer unions and served as a lifeline for Artsakh. All those operations should be viewed in one integrity without overestimating the one at the expense of others with all of them having crucial significance in the Artsakh Liberation War,” Nersisyan said.
“Union of Reconnaissance Veterans” NGO Chair Suren Karapetyan, present at the press conference, noted he had personally participated in the liberation operation and regretted that the date has not been officially marked by the state so far.
“The reason is no state officials has come up with corresponding proposal,” Karapetyan said.
The Artsakh war veteran also suggested the liberation of Lachin was no coincidence but a result of a scrupulously planned strategy.
To note, May 18 marks the 25th of the liberation of Lachin, when the area came under the Armenians’ control a week-long battle in the aftermath of the Shushi liberation.
The Liberation of Lachin created a direct land link between Armenia and Artsakh, thus ending a blockade that had impeded the flow of supplies to Artsakh.
