Expert: Iran’s defense ministry plans to bolster its missile systems
Iran’s Parliament (Majlis) has kicked off debates on President Hassan Rouhani’s cabinet picks. The nominees for ministerial posts are presenting the priorities of their respective ministries at discussions held at various parliamentary committees, Yerevan-based expert on Iranian studies Armen Israyelyan wrote on Facebook.
The expert noted that Amir Hatami has been nominated for Iran’s Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics. For years, he has held senior positions both at the Defense Ministry and at the General Staff, working with the current Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Mohammad Baqeri.
Iran’s defense ministry plans to bolster its missile systems, to develop the military industry boosting the weaponry exports, to modernize its military equipment, etc. in the upcoming years.
“Taking into account the successful cooperation established between Armenian and Iranian defense ministers, it is to be particularly highlighted one of the provisions of the action plan of Iran’s defense ministry aimed at developing common approaches with its friendly states,” Mr. Israyelyan concluded.
