PRIME MINISTER RECEIVES EC CHIEF SECRETARY

Today prime minister Sergh Sargsyan accepted the chief secretary of European council Terry Davis. The prime minister stated that the cooporation in the frames of ec is very important for Armenia. Terry Davis notedthat during his visit he had opportunuty to get acqiuanted with some historical- cultural values of Armenia: He has visited the Matenadaran, the Armenian GEnocide victims’ memorial, and Haghpat.

According to the report of government information and public relations department, during the talk, the prime minister and the secretary touched the process of Eurountegration of Armenia, considering the elections of may 12 a progress on this way. These elections, as it was stated, are a good basis for the coming presidential elections. Both, the prime minister and the secretary agreed that everything should be done so that the presidential elections should not yield to the parliamantary elections, and even be ahead of the former presidential elections.

great attention was drawn to the efforts for piece and stability in the region. In this connection, regulation of Karabagh conflict was touched. Terry Davis noted that the ec isn’t a passive observer of this problem within the osce frames and is trying to achieve trust between the two sides. The prime minister noted that any preconceived approach or announcement that can become a means of pressure on the minsk group or either of the sides should be avoided.

At the end of the meeting confidence was stated that the productive cooporation will help armenia to carry out its obligations within the frames of ec membership on time and duely.
