PRESIDENT CANDIDATE REQUEST CANDELED
Today the RA Constitutional Court canceled president candidate Arman Melikyan’s request. The press secretariat of the CC commented that the case was out of court’s authorization.
Note: Melikyan disputed the changes in Electoral Code article2, describing it as against the constitution. According to the change Armenian citizens being abroad do not have the right to take part in the forthcoming elections. He said that it is illegality. “I have a large mass of electors abroad, and now they are forbidden to vote for their candidate. Thus I consider the pre electoral time and campaign to be under threat,” he said.
It is important to remind that the Armenian citizens abroad were deprived to elect when some changes were made in the Electoral Code in February 2007. The changes were named as following “The elections in the Republic of Armenia take place only in the territory of the Republic of Armenia”.
