Turkish minister says protocols not to be ratified providing Karabakh conflict not settled

Turkey’s Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis had a meeting with the Armenian journalists in vited to Turkey at the initiative of Hrant Dink foundation.

According to the CnnTurk, before answering a question on the Armenian Genocide, Egemen Bagis first as if corrected the expression calling it as “claims on the genocide” and said there are no evident facts and this is what the historians should decide, not the politicians. The question was as follows: isn’t the recognition of the Armenian Genocide a significant element on Turkey’s way to the EU integration?

The Turkish minister noted the histories of a number of European states also include bloody pages. In other words, thus he justified the massacres of the Armenian people carried out at the beginning of the 20th century by the Turkish, an act defined as Genocide by the UN Convention.

Egemen Bagis signified the signing of Armenian-Turkish normalization protocols and said the Armenian President was “Brave”.

As he stated, Karabakh issue will be touched upon at the parliamentary protocol discussions.
“Actually, the protocols will not be ratified providing Karabakh conflict is not settled,” Bagis said.
