Obama invites Armenia’s Sargsyan to attend the Global Nuclear Security Summit in Washington
US President Barack Obama’s invitation to Armenia’s Serzh Sargsyan to attend the Global Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, is a vivid evidence to high appraisal of Serzh Sargsyan’s initiative, open and constructive policy, Armenian NA ARP spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov told Panorama.am referring to the invitation.
“President Obama’s invitation also evidences that Armenia’s rating is up both in the regional and the international arena due to Armenian President’s initiative policy,” he said.
Sharmazanov signified Armenia’s serious contribution to the global nuclear security issues.
Sharmazanov mentioned the recent regional developments as another reason why Obama invited President Sargsyan. “The US-Armenian ties are developing rapidly and taking into consideration the US Administration’s support over Armenia’s initiative policy, we can say the regional developments will also be a focus,” the spokesman highlighted.
Panorama.am recalled that Turkey’s PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan is also due to attend the Summit in Washington and inquired whether this was not another way to raise the Armenian-Turkish rapprochement process.
“Since the agenda includes the issue of the regional developments, I don’t exclude the issue to be raised within this framework. To me, the US disposition is very clear: long-term peace in the region, open borders, hence the issue is expected to be discussed,” Sharmazanov said.
The Armenian President’s press office issued a statement Friday which said the US State Secretary Hillary Clinton conveyed to Armenia’s Serzh Sargsyan President Obama’s invitation to attend the Global Nuclear Security Summit in Washington mid-April during the telconversation made at the initiative of the American party. Clinton voiced hope that the parties will continue discussing bilateral, regional and international issues in Washington.
