Expert says Davutoglu-Clinton telconversation bargain between Turkey and USA

The recognition of Armenian Genocide by different countries is connected with internal and foreign political factors.

“We shouldn’t cheat. But we also shouldn’t lose belief towards justice. The world slowly understands the antihuman nature of genocide. The evidence of it are those changes made in the international judiciary field,” Ruben Safrastyan, the director of Oriental Studies Institute told at news conference.
He said, Europe links the recognition of Genocide first with Turkey’s foreign policy and geopolitical position, but a few internal political issues and moral factor also exist. According to him, there are people, politicians in different countries who fight in their parliaments for the recognition of Genocide.
Regarding Davutoglu-Clinton telephone conversation the expert said, it’s the ordinary bargain between Turkey and USA.
“Turkey makes any effort to stop American officials from using “Genocide” word and to reject the resolution on Genocide,” R. Safrastyan said.
The sequence of that bargain, Safrastyan said, will be obvious only on the night of April 23 after U.S. Barack Obama’s annual address. The expert notified that the U.S. are closer to the official recognition of Genocide than ever.
Ruben Safrastyan stated that Armenia should transfer the issue of Genocide recognition from political level to judicial one.
“Yes, we should get prepared to it, as it’s a tough issue; we’re going to deal with international judicial norms. We should introduce our demands from the point of view of modern judicial norms. First, we should set it definite what is pretention for us, we should define what we want. It’s a pan Armenian issue and it may be settled only if intellectual, spiritual forces are combined. And the initiator should be Armenia,” expert said.
