G. Melikyan: Medvedev’s visit to Azerbaijan is a standard one aimed at calming down anti-Russian hysteria

“The Armenian-Russian relations having a centuries-old history and established traditions, entered a new stage in August, by Russian President’s state visit to Armenia, when Armenia and Russia reached a series of agreements on further expansion of their relations and signed important documents,” RPA parliamentary faction member Gagik Melikyan said.

Commenting upon Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Azerbaijan Melikyan said: “Russian President’s visit to Baku is not state but official. So, we can see the difference between Armenian-Russian and Russian-Azerbaijani relations. Medvedev’s visit to Azerbaijan is a standard one which is rather aimed at calming down anti-Russian hysteria in Azerbaijan caused by Russia’s commitment to strengthen Armenia’s interests, to defend Armenia in case of aggression and Russia’s high-level statement about it. Russia and Azerbaijan will sign just two documents during the visit, and only one of them – state border agreement is more or less significant.”
