U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates considers it necessary to prevent use of force in Nagorno-Karabakh, said Pentagon official following the meeting between Gates and Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, ITAR-TASS news agency reported.

“The sides held short discussions over the recent confrontation between the Azerbaijani and Armenian forces in the frontline. U.S. Defense Secretary focused attention on the prevention of use of force in Nagorno Karabakh”, said the Pentagon official.

He said the top defense officials discussed wide range of issues on the Caucasus.
