Armenian FM: Field assessment mission in Nagorno-Karabakh not linked with Azerbaijan’s UN daft resolution

Field assessment mission conducted in Nagorno-Karabakh by the OSCE MG Co-Chairs October 4-14 is not linked with Azerbaijan’s daft resolution submitted with the UN General Assembly, despite Azerbaijan’s claims, Armenian FM Edward Nakbandian told a joint press conference with his Georgian counterpart Grigol Vashadze in Yerevan today.

“OSCE MG Co-Chairs issued a statement on September 6 saying they had reached agreement with Karabakhi side still in spring to conduct a field assessment mission, while Azerbaijan submitted the resolution with the UN in July,” E. Nalbandian said.

UN has nothing to do with the Karabakh mediation mission, FM said. According to Nalbandian, the assessment aims at studying the situation in the region. “Two Co-Chairs, Robert Bradtke (US) and Igor Popov (Russia) are new and they have not been to this region, have no detailed information about the situation and will make use of this opportunity to get acquainted with the situation,” the FM said.

As E. Nalbandian informed, the Co-Chairs are due to arrive in Armenia on October 6.
