M. Lajcak: EU must give clearer signals on inadmissibility to use force

The European Union must give clearer signals on inadmissibility to use force and on the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict through exclusively peaceful means, Miroslav Lajcak, Managing Director for Russia, Eastern Neighborhood and the Western Balkans in EU European External Action Service said during the hearings on the Nagorno Karabakh issue in the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee on June 15.

EU absolutely supports the OSCE Minsk Group, the official noted.

“EU pushes forwards the processes of democratization and supremacy of law in Armenia and Azerbaijan through the European Neighborhood Policy. We have launched negotiations on the Association Agreement, which is expected to bring the countries closer to EU, with their societies becoming more democratic and open,” Lajcak said.

He stressed that EU helps societies of Armenia and Azerbaijan establish contacts, and has already allocated around €2 million for implementation of programs in this field.
