Giro Manoyan: Erdogan’s statements nothing more than blackmail

Turkish PM Tayyip Erdogan’s statements in regard to a bill passed by French Senate criminalizing denial of Genocides are nothing more but blackmail, Giro Manoyan, head of ARF Hay Dat and political affairs office said on Thursday in a news conference.

“Statements made by Turkish PM claiming that it’s anti-Islamic are just blackmail. Turkey should be reminded that they are not the country to tell Europe what to do or not,” he said.

G. Manoyan said Turkey could have some influence on appealing the bill in the constitutional council. Excluding influence of other European countries, G. Manoyan hasn’t excluded that US State Department assessment could have impacted on France’s ruling elite.

G. Manoyan said the appealing of the bill has some domestic political concept also, as some members of Sarkozy’s party have also joined it. “Let’s not forget that Sarkozy hasn’t submitted his candidacy to the forthcoming presidential elections yet,” said G. Manoyan.

Presidential elections in France are scheduled on April 22.
