Iranian FM to visit Turkey for talks on abducted Iranian pilgrims

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi is to visit Turkey on Tuesday for previously unscheduled talks expected to focus on a group of Iranians seized by rebels in Syria, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said, IRNA reported.

“Considering that the Free Syrian Army -- which claims to have abducted the Iranian pilgrims -- is backed by Turkey, the visit by the Foreign Minister aims to warn and remind the Ankara government of its responsibilities in this matter,” the Ministry said.

48 Iranian pilgrims were kidnapped by armed insurgents from a bus near the Syrian capital of Damascus on August 4.

Iran’s Mehr news agency reported on Monday that Syrian insurgents had killed three Iranian pilgrims.
