We must be neutral on Syrian crisis - Serzh Sargsyan
Armenia shall not take sides on Syrian crisis, President Serzh Sargsyan has said.
Speaking at the meeting of ruling Republican Party's (RPA) district organization on Friday, the President commented on proposals to send Armenian detachments to Syria to assist Syrian Armenians.
"That would be the biggest adventure, the surest step putting our country in danger. Occasionally even distinguished individuals can give way to this kind of an adventure. Our war is not over yet, and all those who want to test themselves in a fight may do so by standing next to our 18-year-old soldiers on the border," the President said.
"We must be neutral on the Syrian crisis. We cannot be a party [to the conflict]," he stressed.
Following the meeting, the President answered the questions of participants related to country’s foreign and domestic policy, economy, the draft concept of constitutional reform unveiled on Thursday and his statement made in this context as well as questions about the new government’s policy on continuation of economic reforms, expected positive changes after Armenia’s entry into the Customs Union, possibilities of increasing the volumes of foreign investments in the country and other topics.
