Diaspora Minister: Turkey will have to recognize Armenian Genocide
The recent statement of Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan is an attempt to put an equals sign between the victim and the killer, Armenian Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan says.
“By denying the Armenian Genocide, the Turkish authorities go on with their crime as not recognizing an obvious genocide is also a crime,” Mrs Hakobyan told reporters at Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex.
Referring to the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, the Minister said that Turkey will finally recognize that fact. “Turkey will have to recognize the Armenian Genocide. Our task is not only to restore our rights, but also to prevent a recurrence of such crimes,” she said.
The Armenian Genocide was recognized by Uruguay, Russia, France, Lithuania, the Italian Chamber of Deputies, majority of U.S. states, parliaments of Greece, Cyprus, Argentina, Belgium and Wales, National Council of Switzerland, Chamber of Commons of Canada, Polish Sejm, Vatican, European Parliament and the World Council of Churches.
