Congressman Ed Royce: There is no American who does not know about Genocide
We are here, which means that we recognize the Armenian Genocide, Congressman Ed Royce (R-California), Chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs, told reporters at Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex. “U.S. President Ronald Reagan recognized the Armenian Genocide and attached much importance to the issue,” he said.
According to Mr Royce, the fact of the Armenian Genocide is mentioned in U.S. textbooks. “There is no American who does not know about the Genocide,” he stressed.
Congressman Eliot Engel said that the American people recognize the Armenian Genocide. “We came here to express our support for the Armenian people. We want the Armenian people to know that we support them in this issue,” he said.
The Armenian Genocide was recognized by Uruguay, Russia, France, Lithuania, the Italian Chamber of Deputies, majority of U.S. states, parliaments of Greece, Cyprus, Argentina, Belgium and Wales, National Council of Switzerland, Chamber of Commons of Canada, Polish Sejm, Vatican, European Parliament and the World Council of Churches.
