Turkish PM Davutoglu announces new cabinet
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has named his new cabinet, with few significant changes from the government led by his predecessor, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, RFE/RL reported.
Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan, who had responsibility for economic affairs in the last cabinet, kept his post, as did Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci, and Energy Minister Taner Yildiz.
Outgoing EU Affairs Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu was named as the new foreign minister, replacing Davutoglu.
Erdogan, who was sworn in as Turkey's first popularly elected president on August 28, picked Davutoglu, from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), to succeed him as prime minister.
In Turkey, the president has been a largely ceremonial role, but Erdogan has vowed to revamp the post by pressing for a change in the constitution to grant him more powers.
