Armenian Deputy FM condemns violence against ethnic minorities
The first international conference on ‘World against Violence and Extremism’ was held in the Iranian capital Tehran on December 8-10, with Deputy Foreign Minister Ashot Hovakimian representing Armenia, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.
In his remarks, Mr Hovakimian strongly condemned the violence against the ethnic and religious minorities by terrorist groups, particularly the Islamic State, in Syria and Iraq. He mentioned the blowup of the Holy Martyrs Armenian Church in Deir ez-Zor on September 21.
Meanwhile, Hovakimian praised the attitude of the Iranian authorities to ethnic minorities, including Armenians.
The Armenian official on Wednesday met with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The two discussed Armenian-Iranian cooperation within international organizations.
