Alieyev’s speech showed that we deal with unbalanced neighbor, says Artsakh official
The U.S. Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group James Warlick makes exclusively diplomatic attempts to maintain the balance in the region, while Azerbaijan does not heed those calls, the spokesman for the president of Nagorno-Karabakh David Babayan told Aysor.am when commenting on Mr. Warlick’s appeal to the conflicting parties to reduce tensions.
In his words, that position of Baku was confirmed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Munich.
“Aliyev uses only those clauses that are advantageous to him. His speech showed once again that we are dealing with an unbalanced neighbor who cannot be relied on. Azerbaijan is an unpredictable country,” Babayan said.
Speaking about the new U.S. ambassadors to Armenia and Azerbaijan, Babayan said that Washington’s policy will not change after their appointment.
“The change of an ambassador may result in some changes in Armenian-American relations, even in some changes in the work with Artsakh, but I don’t think the changes will be serious. The new ambassador already made a statement concerning the Karabakh conflict settlement and the Armenian Genocide. I believe that very good statements have been made and they will develop the bilateral relations in a new direction. Yet I do not expect drastic changes. The embassy plays a great, but not decisive role. The role of the White House is decisive,” Babayan said adding that even if some changes take place, they will be out of regional context.
“I think the U.S. should take appropriate steps aimed at deterring Azerbaijan’s provocative actions,” Babayan said.
