PACE President: Dialog is only solution to problem
Today PACE President Anne Brasseur has held a press conference before the opening of the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. She spoke about yesterday’s tragedy in the Mediterranean Sea where a ship with 700 migrants had capsized. Anne Brasseur highlighted that the member-states must take up immediate measures regarding the issue.
Panorama.am’s correspondent in Strasburg reports that after presenting the agenda, PACE President informed that the question of discussing the reconsideration of the sanctions against the delegation of the Russian Federation, that was included in the schedule, would not take place for the monitoring committee had not registered any progress.
The Azerbaijani journalist raised the question of “approximately 1 million Azerbaijani refugees” from Nagorno Karabakh as regards PACE President expressing solidarity with the refugees and saying that everyone is responsible for the refugees. In this regard, he stated the imposing of sanctions against Armenia.
In response, Brassuer said that all aggressions committed in their countries are unacceptable. They must firmly condemn all those actions that are committed.
“What about sanctions. I believe that sanctions are sometimes needed, but what is more important is to use dialog to find solutions. We need to talk to one another. During my various visits I have tried to create this dialog and reconciliation. I am not naïve, I know it is difficult and complex but still firmly believe it is a solution and dialog is the only solution. Because it is the people who suffer and we Council of Europe must protect each and everyone who live in 47 member states without discrimination. And politicians must find a solution without violence,” PACE President Anne Brasseur said.
