Milliyet. 39% of Turks pro and 44% against relations with Armenia

Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEF) has developed a report on “Foreign Policy Perceptions in Turkey” which embodies public viewpoint on a range of important issues. Turkish “Milliyet” daily informs the survey has been conducted in 81 provinces in Turkey.

According to the survey results 69% of the survey participants encourage Turkish efforts to join European Union. Participants of the survey have differentiated three basic reasons for the European integration:

1. Entry visa abatement
2. Economic advantageous
3. Democracy development

To the question when Turkey will join EU, 30% of the poll participants have answered Never.

The Armenian-Turkish issue has also been focused in the survey. According to the survey results 39% of the participants like relations with Armenia and opening of the border, while 44% is against. 50% of the participants support political rapprochement with Armenia, 49% - economic and 51% cultural.

To the question which states are Turkey’s relatives, every third answer was “Turkey has no relatives.” But still the following answers have been given to the question:

1. Iran (13%)
2. Azerbaijan (10%)
3. USA (10%)
4. Pakistan (9%):

“Milliyet” underlines that Iran has surpassed Azerbaijan, which is called a brother state for Turkey.
