The US Federal Bureau of Investigation is reportedly looking for a spy tool for monitoring social media sites including Facebook and Twitter, international media outlets reported.

Earlier in the month, the agency published a RFI (request for information) as a part of its search for companies that could help it come up with a new social media monitoring tool for "publicly available" information.

"Social media has become a primary source of intelligence because it has become the premier first response to key events and the primal alert to possible developing situations," the FBI states in the RFI, reported the Guardian.
