“Brain Awareness Week” 2013 educational campaign in Armenia
On 11-17th of March, The “Brain Awareness Week” educational campaign was held in Armenia. The “Brain Awareness Week” is a global campaign, and aims to provide knowledge about brain diseases and achievements in science, in the field of their therapy etc., Young Biologists Association reported.
The campaign is carried out in 100 countries around the world. It is coordinated by Dana foundation (http://www.dana.org/brainweek/Default.aspx).
Young Biologists Association NGO, supported by Federation of European Neurological associations, in the framework of the campaign realized educational seminars and competitions about Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases in 10 schools of Armenia. Additionally, informational posters were posted in the schools.
10 schools took part in campaign. Among them, 5 from Yerevan - secondary schools No. 185 and 196, “Ohanian”, “Poqrik Ishxan” educational complexes and “Quantum” college, 5 from the regions – Avshar and Gegharkunik villages’ secondary schools, Metsamor’s high school No. 2, Kanakeravan village’s Poqr Mher military educational complex, Hrazdan’s high school No. 10.
About 200 pupils participated in the campaign. During the educational seminars, young biologists presented Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, methods of diagnosis and treatment as well as cut-edge research achievements.
After the seminars, the competitions for participants were organized. The pupils were awarded various prizes. At the end of the week, based on each school’s results the best school was selected. “Quantum” college was recognized the best school of “Brain Awareness week” 2013.
