Information on security, transportation, traffic concerning April 23-24 events
The Armenian Genocide Centennial Commemorative Directorate has released detailed information on the activities in the framework of the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide to be held on April 23 and 24, as well as transport modalities and safety rules, according to Armeniangenocide100.org.
On April 23, at 17:00, the canonization ceremony of the victims of the Armenian Genocide will take place at Holy Etchmiadzin, which will be broadcasted live and will also be shown on large screens mounted at the Republic Square in Yerevan.
Taking into consideration the volume of the activities, the presence of numerous foreign delegations, a large number of people wishing to participate in the activities, the Armenian Police, authorities of Echmiadzin and Yerevan have selected special routes of access to the events’ sites. The buses will take the passengers from the Brazil Square in Yerevan to the Cathedral in Etchmiadzin (free of charge) and upon the end of the event will take participants back to Yerevan. It is not recommended to use personal transport.
All those who will decide to go to Etchmiadzin on their own vehicles should park the cars at the crossroad of the highway heading from Etchmiadzin to Armavir. From this place buses will take the participants to Holy Etchmiadzin.
For security reasons within the territory of Holy Etchmiadzin, as well as other places of public events (listed below) it is prohibited to have the following items:
1. chemical, explosive and flammable substances, as well as goods and means that could pose a threat to others,
2. ammunition, any kind of weapons and bullets (except the officers on duty, who have the right to carry and use firearms)
3. to carry large objects, including utility and other large bags, bags, backpacks, etc.
An inspection and screening of personal belongings will be conducted.
On April 23, 2015, at 20:10, the Republic Square in Yerevan will host a concert of the rock band “SOAD,” which is in consistent struggle for the international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide. The concert will be held under the slogan “Wake up your souls.”
Access to the Republic Square will be open only from Shahumyan Square via Vazgen Sargsyan street after passing security checkpoints.
Entrance is free, but the total number of participants is limited.
On April 23, 2015, from 08:00 to 24:00, the movement on the streets leading to the Republic Square will be limited, in particular:
– Amiryan street – from the Mashtots-Amiryan crossroad,
– Abovyan street from the Abovyan-Tumanyan crossroad,
– Nalbandyan street from the Nalbandyan-Tumanyan crossroad,
– Hanrapetutyan street from the Hanrapetutyan-Byuzand crossroad,
– Tigran the Great Avenue from the Tigran the Great Avenue-Khanjyan crossroad,
– Gregory the Illuminator street from the Gregory the Illuminator street- Italy str. crossroad,
– Khorenatsy street from the Khorenatsy-Zakyan and Khorenatsi-M. Mkrtchyan crossroads
On April 24 ceremonial events will be held at the Armenian Genocide Memorial with the participation of high-ranking foreign delegations. Access to the Memorial Complex will be open for visitors from 13:00. Visiting the memorial complex will also continue on 25 April.
On April 24, at 20:15, the Republic Square in Yerevan will host the World Orchestra 24/04 with the participation of 140 musicians, conductors and soloists from around the world.
Access to the Republic Square will be open from Vazgen Sargsyan, Amiryan streets and Tigran the Great Avenue after passing security checkpoints.
Any movement to/-from the streets of Nalbandyan and Abovyan will be prohibited. The entrance is free.
On April 24, 2015, at 22:00, the traditional torchlight procession to the Genocide Memorial in Tsitsernakaberd will start from the Republic Square.
