Party leader: Baku mayor relatives import dangerous siding, and his son squanders money on Wahhabis

Four more people were detained in the case of the fire in 16-storey building. On the court’s decision, a measure of restraint in the form of 4-month arrest has been chosen against the director of Global Stone company - where the siding material was produced – Ugur Bashirov; deputy chairman of Global Construction, Alekper Askerov; chief executive of economic department of Baku Binagadin district, Adalat Rajabov who was the head of the housing and communal services of the district in 2012-2013. Earlier Mirusif Mahmudov, whose company Global Construction conducted the facing works in the burnt building, was detained in the case, information agency Turan reports.

According to the report, the meeting of the State Committee for defining the causes of the fire in 16-storey apartment building established that several state agencies at a time were guilty of using the flammable siding which caused the death of 15 people. It can be assumed from the Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Abid Shrifov’s remarks that the siding had not been properly tested and certified, neither had the executives signed a contract regarding the buildings’ facing. The Minister of Emergency Situations (MES), Kamaleddin Heydarov, said that the certificates were given out for one material, but later the local manufacturers did not add the necessary additives to the material.

Actually, all the norms and rules of construction were totally violated let alone the safety measures. By this, the state agencies showed that they act as they are told to, rather than on rules. The question why “the big work of beautifying” Baku is done so ineptly and criminally was not raised during the meeting, neither it was answered, the article reads.

Minval.az adds that a protest was held in front of the burnt building, and there were clashes between the protesters and the police. The protesters chanted the slogan “Unmask!” “How was it possible to arrive so late? How was it possible to be more diligent in cordoning than evacuating?” Jamila Mamedova resents against the actions of the MES workers in her letter sent to Minval.az.

Scandal broke out around the host of ATV program “Gundelik,” Matanat Aliverdiyeva who commented on the tragic incident saying that “we should not dramatize that tragedy. Well, it was a misfortune. It was like a windflow, like a watched film that is over.”

Another scandal spins up between Muasir Musavat party chairman Hafiz Hajiyev and Baku chief executive Hajibal Abutalibov. In an interview to the newspaper Yeni Musavat, Hajiyev insulted Abutalibov. “He loses his mind as he grows older. An idiot! He has never been and will not be a man. His place is behind the bars. He is involved in the deaths caused by the fire in the house. The peoples’ curses will get him. He behaves like a clown. The president asks him who faced the house and he answers that he does not know. But as soon as someone builds a toilet in the city, he runs up for money. His son squanders the state’s money on Wahhabis. Slacker, an old dotard, a clown,” the oppositionist said wrathfully.

Moreover, Hajiyev intends to sue Abutalibov for calling him mentally ill. “It is he who is mentally ill. His nephew imported the siding of the burnt building into the country. If he is still in freedom, then we might all get burnt some day. He imported the flammable material and burns the whole nation. I have earlier said that the material was imported by his relative, and I still back my words. Didn’t he see the building that burnt a few months ago? He has 20-30 villas on his own. What an abnormal person should he be to be the head of the city hall? I have run for president for 3 times, so now let him prove in the court that I am mentally ill. He must take the responsibility of the words he said. He and his son, they both work for Wahhabis. He must immediately be arrested,” he said.

Fire erupted in a multi-story building in Azadlig Avenue, 289, Baku on May 19. According to the information, the plastic cover of the building burnt down. The workers of the Fire Service of the Emergency Situations Ministry of Azerbaijan arrived at the scene. They managed to localize the fire. This is already the second case in one month that fire quickly spreads during the inferno because of the inflammable building materials.
