President Sargsyan attends opening ceremony of first fab labs in Armenia
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan visited the Ayb educational complex today, on October 10, where he attended the opening of Armenia’s first fab labs (fabrication laboratories) and participated in the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of a new building of Ayb high school, according to the presidential press service.
Officials said the first fab labs equipped with special equipment and the necessary materials will help promote scientific research in robot building, machinery construction, physics and other spheres and also create a new platform for research activity of young Armenian specialists.
Serzh Sargsyan familiarized himself with the program of introducing innovative labs in Armenia. The program was carried out by Ayb Educational Foundation in cooperation with Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2013.
During the foundation stone laying ceremony, the Armenian president was told that the new building of Ayb school making part of Ayb Learning Hub will accommodate 180 pupils of 5th to 9th grades. The 4200 square meter four-story building has many labs and workshops, studios, a gym, a hall-amphitheater, and recreational and playing areas. The new building is expected to open in September 2016.
