Seven European titles holding Russian figure skating star Evgeny Plushenko will have an operation on his injured knee in Germany on February 23, he said Friday.

“Operation February 23 in Germany,” Plushenko wrote on his official Twitter page.

Plushenko returned to domestic competition in December, winning the Russian national championships in Saransk against largely unheralded opponents with an untidy performance.

He received special dispensation from skating authorities to take part in the European Championships after failing to accrue enough points in competition this season.
