Iranian “Kayhan” called France’s first lady “prostitute”

Iranian state-run publication Kayhan has called France's first lady Carla Bruni a "prostitute", after she voiced her support to save Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, an Iranian woman who faces death by stoning on an adultery conviction, foreign media reported.

The paper slammed Bruni in an editorial titled "French prostitutes enter the human rights uproar." It pointed out that new reports have emerged about Bruni's affair with a singer and suggested of infidelity in her marriage.
Bruni is reported to have written a letter to Ashtiani saying stoning would "deeply wound all women, all children, all those who have feelings of humanity". She also promised that her husband, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, would "plead her cause tirelessly". She added that France will not abandon her.
It also emerged that France has urged the European Union to threaten new sanctions over the case, and there were marches in several French cities this weekend in support of Ashtiani.
The French president's office declined to comment on the remarks by the Iranian media.
