Serbia not giving up Kosovo – Tadic

“There is possibility that Serbia does not get this year candidate status for the EU membership and the date for beginning of negotiations. In spite of that Serbia cannot accept to suspend its institutions in the north of Kosovo/Metohija,” Serbia President Boris Tadic said.

In his interview with the Tanjug agency President Tadic replied to explicit request by German Chancellor Angela Merkel that Serbia should suspend its parallel institutions in the north.

“Serbia shall not leave its people in Kosovo/Metohija. At the same time Serbia shall not give up European integration. If we get from Serbian or European politicians request that Serbia makes a choice, my reply shall be that Serbia shall not give up none of its legitimate interests,” Tadic said.

He is convinced that it is possible to achieve both strategic goals – taking care of its legitimate interests in Kosovo/Metohija and becoming the EU member.

As he pointed out “Serbia continues its policy of European integration.”
