At least 78 killed in Iraq explosions

At least 78 people have been killed and dozens more wounded in a series of bomb and gunfire attacks throughout Iraq, Xinhua news report said.

It's reported that the coordinated explosions came ahead of Friday’s Shiite religious festival. Tens of thousands of pilgrims headed to the capital to march to the shrine of Imam Kad-hum, in honor of his death.

Several car bombs ripped through the surrounding areas, causing large casualties. The first explosions occurred in downtown Hilla, some 100km South of Baghdad.

Two car bombs were detonated near a restaurant in the city center, killing at least 20 people and wounded 38 others.
