In a letter released Thursday, the former Beatle urged three members of all-female band Pussy Riot to “stay strong” and called on authorities to allow them freedom of speech.

Singer Paul McCartney said on Thursday he hoped Russia would not punish members of punk band Pussy Riot, on trial for bursting into Moscow's Christ the Saviour Cathedral in balaclavas and short skirts and taunting the Kremlin from the altar, the Reuters reports.
