France calls for all nations to recognize Kosovo
France's Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said all states should recognize Kosovo as a nation after a United Nations court issued an advisory opinion that Kosovo’s 2008 independence declaration was legal.
French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said the court had confirmed that the independence declaration was not in contravention of international law.
France's foreign minister, Bernard Kouchenr, also said that Kosovo's independence can not be reversed and that the ICJ decision has strongly approved its declaration.
"The United Nation International Court of Justice's advisory opinion clearly confirms that the declaration of independence did not violate international law or Resolution 1244 the Security Council."
Kouchner has said ICJ's decision only strengthens independence and has called on countries that have so far been reluctant to recognize it.
France's Foreign Minister has said he expects that Serbia and Kosovo to build good neighborly and inter-state relations in a near future as condition to join the European Union, foreign media reported.
Kosovo declared independence February 17, 2008, though, only 69 out of 192 UN member sates have recognized it. Serbia, China, Russia, India refused to recognize Kosovo independence.
