“This is a modern managed center for water supplies, which was created in Armenia based on the French model. The establishment work has begun 5 years ago,” General Director of Armenian Water and Sewerage CJSC Patrick Lorin said during his visit to Ashtarak AWSC CJSC management centre.
According to him, this innovation will make water supply administration more efficient and the daily work more transparent.

“Now online monitoring of machinery, reservoirs, pumping stations, used electricity, produced and consumed water, is being realized in the management center. The system allows controlling the pumping stations, according to various criteria to disconnect and connect the pumps. The management center monitors the area of pumping stations. Currently, online monitoring of residual chlorine in the water is being carried out, which contributes to water quality control,” Partrick Lorin said.

Asked by Panorama.am whether any change is expected in the water price and what impact the center may have on the price rate, Partrick Lorin said: “A tender is announced to give the administration of the whole water supply system of Armenia to a single operator. Four operators have applied to the procurement procedure so far with each of them suggesting certain pricing policy. The government of Armenia will choose the cheapest price proposal, ” Lorin said refraining to mention an estimated price.

General Director of Armenian Water CJSC reflected on the preservation of water resources, pointing out the abundance of drinking fountains throughout Armenia.
“Wasted water resources are never recovered, yet we should pay more attention to preserving them. We witness a scarcity of water resources due to climate changes; therefore we should use them with care. Drinking fountains are considered good Armenian tradition, however it would be better to put a valve on them to open only when drinking.’’

To note, March 22 is celebrated as World Water Day. This day was first formally proposed in Agenda 21 of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro.
