Aurora Dialogues։ Armenia to present a new say to the world

Aurora Dialogues will take place on April 23 in Yerevan to bring together people who confront the consequences of the Crime of Genocide on daily basis, the fate of those survivors of the Genocide, Chief of Staff of the RA President’s Office Vigen Sargsyan told reporters at a press conference held on April 22.

To remind, Aurora prize awarding ceremony will be held on April 24 in Yerevan. Aurora Dialogues to take place on April 23, are held within the scopes and under the patronage of the Second Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide.

“I think that dialogue may lay the foundation of a lasting process. As a member state to the United Nations, we may pursue a review of the international law in the global agenda, which may strengthen the international procedures for protecting the rights of genocide survivors. That is our aim,” Sargsyan underscored.

Arman Jilavyan, General Director of 100 lives initiative, also present at the press conference, noted that new say of international relevance would be presented at the event. He specifically pointed out the Humanitarian Index, a global study of the top humanitarian issues, which will communicate with the world which humanitarian issues are of more relevance for the public, what topics are perceived as more concerning, the gulf between perception and reality by public on a number of humanitarian issues.

“That is of high importance, that the new material is delivered from Armenia, as we provide new information. The fact that Armenia and Aurora prize issue it on behalf of the survivors of the Armenian Genocide, the Genocide discourse is raised in a new way to receive new international resonance,” Jilavyan said.

The Aurora Prize will host the Aurora Dialogues – a series of insightful discussions between leading humanitarians, academics, philanthropists and media experts on some of today’s most pressing global challenges.

Through a series of keynote speeches, panel discussions and Q&A sessions, the Aurora Dialogues will encourage conversations that explore the importance of learning from the past, acting in the present, and fostering a better future. Discussion topics will include the state of humanitarian issues, the global refugee crisis, the role of women in the humanitarian community and the role of media in bringing humanitarian crises to the world’s attention, among others.

The Aurora Dialogues will allow the distinguished humanitarian guests who will be in Armenia for the events marking the presentation of the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity to exchange knowledge and views on the best ways to address these challenges. In keeping with the spirit of the Aurora Prize, the Aurora Dialogues will shine a light on the people who are working hard to address today’s atrocities in a real and substantial manner. Discussions will be made available via live stream in English, French, Russian and Armenian.

The Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity will be granted annually to an individual whose actions have had an exceptional impact on preserving human life and advancing humanitarian causes. The Aurora Prize Laureate will be honored with a US $100,000 grant. In addition, that individual will have the unique opportunity to continue the cycle of giving by nominating organizations that inspired their work to receive a US $1,000,000 award.

The Aurora Prize will be awarded annually on April 24 in Yerevan, Armenia.
