Three years after the failure of the Armenia-EU Association Agreement, Armenia and the European Union today ended the talks on the new framework agreement.

As the Brussels-based correspondent of RFE/RL’s Armenian Service reported, the agreement is likely to be signed in the upcoming May.

As Armenpress news agency reports, in a press conference in Brussels following the meeting with President of the European Council Donald Tusk, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan noted:

“The key topic of today’s meeting is the new framework agreement between Armenia and the EU. Today I can gladly mention that the sides have completed the talks. The new legal document – the comprehensive and expanded partnership agreement reflects the real inclusiveness and deepness of the Armenia-EU relations.

Meanwhile it should be mentioned that in addition to the framework agreement, we have registered significant progress also in sectorial cooperation by signing the “Horizon 2020” program on SMEs and innovations.

In the coming future, we will also successfully complete the agreement on common aviation area and the works to join Creative Europe initiative.”

According to President Sargsyan, in general the previous two years in the Armenia-EU relations have been marked by vigorousness, political dialogue and significantly expanded coopetition in various spheres.
