Armenia to open consulate in Erbil, Iraq
Armenia is planning to open a Consulate in Erbil, Iraq. The Cabined adopted the respective Presidential decree during the session held on Thursday. The justification of the decision reads that the Consulate will contribute to the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
It is noted that over the past 5-6 years Armenia and Iraq have enjoyed a notable progress in their relations. Specifically, Iraqi Embassy to Armenian was reopened in Yerevan, sessions of Armenian-Iraqi joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation were convened, along with business forums. Additionally, the decision comes amid the growing turnover between the two states with operation of the Baghdad-Erbil-Yerevan direct flights during the tourist season.
