Why you failed to pursue your dreams?
During the same year, both me and my 73-year old grandfather became first year students. It surprised me a lot when learning that he had entered a university. When asking my grandpa, a chemist and teacher who had served as a schoolmaster for many years, what made him pursue the profession of a tour guide, he replied: “You see, as a child everything was already decided: I was to become a doctor when I grew up. I could not resist the decision and took the path chosen by my parents. However, I had a soft heart for a doctor. Two years after studying medicine, I changed my faculty to the one of Chemistry. I have always dreamt of becoming a tour guide and travelling. However, a man with seven kids cannot act freely. At first it was my parents and then there came my children who made me continue exercising my profession. Now when, thanks to God, everyone has achieved their goals, I want to live my own life.”
Following the traces of my grandfather’s dream, I, together with photographer Lilian Galstyan, have realized a photo project, showing the gap between our childhood dreams and the reality. The first participant of the project was Ruben, who has the profession my grandpa dreamt of – a tour guide.

P.S. This was a sad, but meantime a motivating project. Let’s think for a moment how we, as a child, would react when seeing how we have treated our dreams. Never stop dreaming.
“Don't ever let someone tell you, you can't do something. Not even me. You got a dream, you got to protect it. People can’t do something themselves, they want to tell you you can’t do it. You want something, go get it. Period.”
Gabriele Muccino
