The Polish-Armenian expedition has resumed excavations in the site of “Metsamor” historical-archeological museum-reserve, uncovering unique archaeological remains, including knives, bracelets and human skeletons dated to the 8-6th centuries BC.

«Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Cultural Museum-Reservations» NCSO reports in a release, the newly uncovered items will spread light on the significance and the role of the area and come up with new accurate conclusions for the specific era.

Co-head of the Armenian-Polish expedition professor Ashot Piliposyan who also acts as the deputy in the field of scientific activities, the Director of the Institute of Archeology from Warsaw University Christoph Yakubian, the Head of the “Service for the Protection of Historical Environment and Cultural Museum-Reservations» NCSO Ara Tarverdyan presented the course of the 10-day excavation works and the future plans.

Members of the archaeological expedition hoped the organic materials of the unearthed items will be sent to laboratory examination abroad with the support of the Polish side.

Ara Tarverdyan highlighted the scientific potential of the efficient Armenian-Polish cooperation and set out new plans for excavations in other sites. As an example of fruitful cooperation, Tarverdyan referred to the scientific article authored by the expedition members “On Metsamor Excavations” published in the prestigious academic journal “Polish Archaeology in the Mediterranean” that covers archaeological, geophysical, restoration and study work carried out by expeditions from the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw.
