Maternal mortality rates on the decline in Armenia
The average age of Armenia’s permanent population was 36.2 years as of the beginning of 2017 (35.9 years in 2016) – 34.3 years for men and 38.0 years for women, the statistics show.
According to the figures released by the National Statistical Service (NSS), in January-September 2017, the population viability rate, i.e. the ratio of birth and death rates stood at 133.9% against the 145.5 % recorded in the indicated period of 2016.
Downward trends were observed in maternal mortality rates within nine months of this year, with two maternal deaths registered in the indicated period due to pregnancy and childbirth complications compared to the seven cases recorded in January-September 2016. The maternal mortality ratio was estimated 7.2 per 100,000 live births in the indicated period.
